Summary: A Common Sense Kick in the Pants
Comment: Viewers of TLC's Clean Sweep already know Peter Walsh, but he brings his guidance to the masses in an accessible, sensible book. All kinds of households - spouses, partners, roommates, families with kids, people with no kids - find themselves reflected in Walsh's scenarios, a refreshing change from many organizing books that assume the reader is a married woman with kids. He stresses that organization isn't really about the stuff being organized, it's about the life that the person wants to live. And then he tackles the house room by room, reminding the reader of his basic points at regular intervals. After a quick top-level decluttering and the in-depth organizing, he provides tips for maintaining a clutter-free house all year long, as well as how decluttering can affect a person's emotions, career, and relationships. While he does skirt around the fact that some people's hoarding may have serious roots that need the attention of a professional (remember, he's an organizer, not a doctor), this book serves as a great coach for those who want to clear out their stuff but just can't figure out where to start.

Summary: Peter Understands the Hearts and Minds of Those With A Clutter Problem
Comment: Peter will take you by the hand and gently lead you through the process of de-cluttering your space and regaining your life.

If you are looking for tips for better organizing, you'll find some here. But it's not the heart of the book. Peter spends a lot of time on what many of us need, an emotional level reason to let go of our stuff and live a different way.

If you are starting the journey, I recommend this book and Clearing Your Clutter with Feng Shui by Karen Kingston. You/we need to first develop a vision of how we want to live and how we can get there. Then we need the first level of organization which you will find in these two books.

Once the initial problem has been tackled and you are living in a different space, search for other books and websites for additional tips and tricks to keep your space the way you want it.

Blessings!

Summary: Great Book
Comment: The book has been a great help in me getting things in order around the house and in my life. I saw the author on Oprah and something about his approach clicked with me. He approaches clutter from a deeper, psychological aspect and tells how clutter is a reflection of and influencer of our mental/psychological states.

I'm not clutter-free yet, but I'm well on my way.

Summary: It's all too much
Comment: This is a great book. I highly recommend it. I purchased it after a recent Oprah show on hoarding. Peter Walsh gets to the root of the problem of keeping too much and how to deal with it. It is helping me.

Summary: Wish there were more stars!
Comment: I wish I could give this audiobook more stars! It is a wonderful read for anyone who has ever felt owned by their stuff. By following Peter's firm but kind guidance, I began a journey of decluttering that was a catalyst for great personal growth. Read this book/audio book. You will be so glad you did.

Editorial Reviews:

When Peter Walsh, organizational guru of TLC's hit show Clean Sweep and a regular contributor to The Oprah Winfrey Show, appeared on national television shows and told people how they could reclaim their lives from the suffocating burden of their clutter, the response was overwhelming. People flooded Peter's website (www.peterwalshdesign.com) with success stories about how his book had changed their lives.

Peter's unique approach helped people everywhere learn to let go of the emotional and psychological clutter that was literally and figuratively choking the life out of their homes.

With his good humor and reassuring advice, Peter shows you how to face the really big question: What is the vision for the life you want to live? He then offers simple techniques and a step-by-step plan to assess the state of your home, prioritize your possessions, and let go of the clutter you have been holding on to that has kept you from living the life you imagine. The result is freed-up space, less stress, and more energy for living a happier, richer life every day.
