Customer Rating: Summary: good overall Comment: overall, I like this book...the story type history is very readable for children- to them and also by them independently. But I think that the time periods covered in the book are not put together well...they jump all over in time instead of following an organized time line. Customer Rating: Summary: Strong writing and history Comment: Very strong writing and good, solid, organized history. Makes concepts accessible for young learners. Customer Rating: Summary: Easy Learning Comment: We have this series on CD now and the whole family enjoys listening to it on a car journey. It is a good run through history, with things even the adults did not know before. Customer Rating: Summary: PLEASE view ALL 1-starred reviews before making your purchase Comment: I would not have bothered to write a review of this book for there are many 1-starred reviews here already and many have made very good arguments against this book (if only I had read those before purchasing). However, I feel compelled to add one more negative review because I feel the need to balance out the 5-star reviews. This book makes me question Ms. Bauer's Well-Trained Mind and whether I should use her materials in my homeschool curriculum.
Customer Rating: Summary: Homeschool material Comment: Excellent material. I really like how this material is designed to to cycle through over three times during a child's homeschool experience in grades K-12.
What terrible secret was buried in Shi Huangdi's tomb? Did nomads like lizard stew? What happened to Anansi the Spider in the Village of the Plantains? And how did a six-year-old become the last emperor of Rome?
Told in a straightforward, engaging style that has become Susan Wise Bauer's trademark, The Story of the World series covers the sweep of human history from ancient times until the present. Africa, China, Europe, the Americas—find out what happened all around the world in long-ago times. This first revised volume begins with the earliest nomads and ends with the last Roman emperor. Newly revised and updated, The Story of the World, Volume 1 includes maps, a new timeline, more illustrations, and additional parental aids.
This read-aloud series is designed for parents to share with elementary-school children. Enjoy it together and introduce your child to the marvelous story of the world's civilizations.
