Summary: Does anyone but me notice that these Bayreuth performances..
Comment: ...are lip-synced? They are not films, and they are made to look like live performances, and the sound-track IS from a live performance apparently. Then why is the whole thing staged after the fact and lip-synced to a live performance? For better camera-angles? That's ridiculous! The result is annoying and false, and the carriers-on of the genius of Bayreuth are certainly no geniuses, based on what I see on the videos that come out of there. Hey Wagner brothers or whoever it is making the decisions there: tape your performances live -- sound AND video! The result will be a thousands times greater, guaranteed. Stop fussing with your video toys, boys. Oh, by the way, Ponelle's production and especially his interpretation of the last act is appalling, and Barenboim's conducting is just good, not great. The fellow who sings Kurvenal makes a dreadful sound, Kollo is passable, the Isolde in the up-close shots is an ugly woman and that's distracting (better keep the camera back a bit), but Hannah Schwarz, as always, is very good and appealling to the eye as well.
