Customer Rating: Summary: It blows -- in a good way Comment: This fan is amazing. It is my favorite fan ever, in fact. It's heavy, it looks awesome, and it blows in a good way. A previous reviewer has commented on how, when on oscillating mode, it can "click" rather loudly -- and I noticed that mine does this sometimes as well -- but it is not annoying enough to return it for another one. Yet if it was that annoying, the point is that I *would* return it for another of the same fan, rather than look at a different brand or model.
It's made in the USA, and if anyone reading this is as sick as I am with certain overseas products that were only meant to last a year, maybe two, this fan will technically pay for itself in a year, maybe two -- and keep on producing.
Customer Rating: Summary: NOT Quiet! Comment: Built to last? yes!
Looks good? The best presentable fan I've ever had.
Quiet? No.. NO... NO.. Not even when I'm 10 feet away and have it set to the lowest speed, it sounds like small cessana plane flying over at the distance.
Fan blade wasn't exactly designed with air dynamics in mind. It's rather primitive in design. just flat metal with straight forward single bend. Believe me, fan blades have evolved in last two decades to run quieter and be effective at high velocity. (I guess they are keeping their 117 years tradition without incorporating new changes.)
It looks damn good even when it's not running, I really wanted to keep it. but... pap! pap! pap! pap! pap! pap... that echos in my head. I had to look for something else. If I can't find Japanese made Sanyo, I'll probably get a bigger blade fan that runs at slower speed. It will be ugly but graceful sleep at night can't be trade off for anything else.

Customer Rating: Summary: Heavy and Well Built Comment: We use the fan to offset some pretty high electric rates here in TX. Our tower fan quit oscillating and have had Hunter ceiling fans with positive results. Bought from Amazon and was pleased with their service and the fan is just what we need to push a large amount of air throughout our medium sized Den. It is quiet enough and very solidly built. It reminds me of the old Emersons and GE fans of the 1940's. If you want Hunter quality and a fan that does the job try this one. Also, we run the fan on low most of the time both Day and Night. We are able to set our thermostat on 79 degrees and are very comfortable in the downstairs of a two-story home by using this fan, a ceiling fan, and a tower fan. The tower fan has a loud whine and the Hunter fan is much quieter--just the sound of pushing air. We'll replace the tower fan someday with another Hunter fan like this.
Customer Rating: Summary: This fan blows Comment: a lot of air. It is so powerful that its lowest setting blows plenty of air. The drawback to this is that it's kind of noisy, which I expect is because it's all metal, as opposed to plastic, which most fans are made of. I don't mind the noise too much because it's a nice hum.
It is also gorgeous, which is the main reason I got it. I have it sitting proudly in my living room, and it's like another piece decoration. Sometimes I move it to the dining room when it gets too hot in there, and I miss it in the living room.
Besides the noise, which isn't a big deal, the only other drawback to this fan is the black cord. I think it would be much nicer with a clear cord, as there is no way for me to hide the cord, and there is no black anywhere in my living room.
If aesthetics is just as important to you as function, I recommend spending the extra money on this fan.
