Customer Rating: Summary: Not worth the money Comment: This shaver is not worth the money. Don't buy it. Doesn't shave worth a nickel. After a couple of weeks, I put it in the drawer and got a Norelco.
Customer Rating: Summary: Just doesn't work Comment: I bought this as a gift for my brother. He had one of the first electric razors and it was so old and beat up, I figured he needed a new one. About a month after I gave it to him, I noticed he was still using the old one. I asked him why. His answer: the old one works better. An 8-year-old $20 electric razor was superior to this brand new product. He said that the couple times he tried to use it, there were whole areas of his face it could not shave. My brother has a normal face.
Total failure, Braun.
Customer Rating: Summary: Piece of Junk Comment: I bought this shaver based on the glowing reviews here. My experience is different. The quality is very cheap, and it probably takes me 5 times as long to shave with this vs. my ancient twin-foil Braun. It also misses many hairs, and refuses to cut them when they get a little long. I find myself having to use a blade to clean up what it leaves behind. Junk.
Customer Rating: Summary: Made Me A Convert Comment: Like many others, I tried electric years ago, didn't like it, left stubble, gave up on them, used traditional razors for decades. Traditional shaving with a razor - soapy foamy scummy hairy mess to clean up and clog sinks, mirror fogs so you can't see what you're doing, hard to get spots - peach fuzz on back of ear as an example, hard to shave. Oh - and those never-stop-bleeding razor cuts. Ever forget to take that piece of toilet paper off your face? Careful you don't drip blood on your nice clean dress shirt. This thing is still bleeding?!? Oh - and you're always running out of something. If it isn't razors, it's shaving cream, if it isn't that, it's after shave. And razors are flipping expensive! One of those items I dread purchasing at the supermarket. Careful around those difficult angle-y areas - right under the nose, around the chin. Can't shave the back of your neck very well (but you can, blind, easily, with an electric...)
So, I read about this shaver in Consumer Reports who gave it their "budget best buy". Saw it at the drugstore, bought it, and it made me a convert. Nice ergonomics, easy to clean, a good close shave, reasonable price*. Best of all - no cuts, no mess, no expensive consumables that run out once every couple weeks. After the first couple recharges it really holds a charge a long time, easily a week. If the battery runs out mid-shave, simply plug it in. You can run it under water to clean or use the provided brush. Either way, it takes - literally - two seconds to clean.
Many people say that shaving with an electric isn't close as a regular razor. True. That's because electric razors stay the tiniest thinnest bit above the skin line. Traditional razors shave off a microscopic layer of skin along with the stubble, so they're actually shaving below the skin line. That why after shave is needed and burns - all those micro-cuts. (I've also read traditional shaving leaves a microscopic layer of scar tissue, and removes a coating of natural acid on the face that's there to fight infection... Not sure if that's true, take it with a grain.)
So when you give your face the "back of the finger" test you'll feel stubble after shaving with an electric razor that you wouldn't feel with a blade shave. This is why, I think, men think they get a close shave with a razor or are perhaps self-conscious that they're walking around with stubble all day at the office. This simply isn't true. You might feel a trace of stubble but whatever hair is left above the skin line after shaving with a quality electric razor is totally invisible.
Although I got a decent shave from the Braun 1775 from the get-go, it definitely improved after a few weeks of use, so that line about your skin needing to adjust to an electric razor isn't marketing bunk. I also use Williams Lectric Shave - cheap, lasts forever, as it does seem to give me a little closer shave. Also, some complain that electric razors miss hairs that require repeated back and forth, over and over of the shaver to remove. True. It will occasionally miss a thin random facial hair. A. This lessens as the weeks go by. B. Quickly dry shave it off with a disposable razor (but I don't do this, I) C. Finesse it. Instead of gouging your skin over and over, angle the razor over the stubborn hair as if you're trying to insert it into one of the tiny holes in the foil and "gently" push downward to shave it off. Works. Anyway, these stubborn hairs lessen as you continue to use the electric razor over subsequent weeks.
Bottom line. Great product, good value. I used to "not see" how people used these things. Now I "don't see" why people still use manual blade shaving. I really can't see myself ever going back to a manual blade - ever. I'm a complete convert due to this Braun model. Of course, as always, your mileage may vary.
* The price Amazon lists this product for is simply too high. I purchased mine for $45 and later saw it for $39.99 in two other stores. $60 + shipping is ridiculous. Get it at a brick and mortar store or other on-line store that more competitively priced.
Customer Rating: Summary: Clean, Fun Shave! Comment: Greatt! It's an awesome smooth shave. I never thought it would be, considering all the bad press about razors vs electric. Maybe I was bad at regular shaving, but my skin feels smoother than ever. Also, the shaver looks super sleek. I love having it sit, and looking cool.
The only drawback is that my skin feels slightly irritated/itchy after I shave. Maybe it's because my skin isn't used to it or I'm not great with the razor yet.
OVERALL: GREAT BUY
