Customer Rating: Summary: Plastic breaks easily Comment: Bought this head phone when it was still over $100. Both sides of the headset the plastic broke off. Not worth the price even at $60. If it was more durable it would be a good headset. It didnt last very long. Now its being held together by tape. I use it for gaming
Customer Rating: Summary: So glad I found these Comment: I've had mine for several months now and I am so happy with them after having gone thru 5 other headsets.
Fit was my main problem. I have a small head and small ears, so I couldn't get the ear attached headsets to work for me. These are adjustable and stay put. They are easy to use and the sound is great. The distance is great, I can walk 30' or so from my phone and it doesn't cut out unless I go into another room at that distance. At a closer distance I can go into other rooms of the house with no problems. The phone works excellent, people hear me fine and I hear them fine.
They paired easily to my Palm Centro (I had a hard time finding a set that I liked and paired with my Centro) and haven't needed to be re-paired since the original pairing. '
They hold a charge for a long time. I can use them most of the day before they start beeping.
The only problem I've had is that the charger's male/female attachment has to be played with a bit to get a connection and start charging.
I didn't like the bright silver color which I fixed by spray painting with matte black paint. It was too gaudy for my taste but that's just a vanity thing.
It's just too bad it's illegal to drive with full headsets. But I do anyway, I just cock the left ear speaker to the back of my ear since they swivel and are very flexible, so I only use the right ear for driving. It would be nice if the left ear speaker could be lifted upward and hooked to the back of the headpiece for driving or even removed.
All in all, I use these alot and I love them.
Customer Rating: Summary: these kick butt Comment: These are hands down the best bluetooth headphones out there. Even compared to other regular headphones the bass is often better on these. Mine wont mate with a treo 755 if you are playing Rhapsody songs so I use a 3.5 to 2.5 and hook the dongle right up to my phone.
Customer Rating: Summary: Music Cuts Out Intermittently Comment: The audio quality was acceptable and pairing was easy. But the audio cuts out intermittently. Plantronics tech support suggested I remove the battery from the Sony Ericsson w580i with which the device was paired to eliminate the possibility of a static bubble around the phone's battery. That didn't fix the problem. I've paired my phone with other bluetooth stereo devices without this problem, so I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the Plantronic headphones, not my phone.
Two possibilities occur to me: (1) the sampling rate on my music might be more than the headset can handle, or (2) the unit might have a weak front end and, thus, be unacceptably susceptible to RF interference from other electronic devices. To their credit, Plantronics offered to replace the headset, but I suspect this isn't a device manufacture issue, so much as a design flaw.
Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointing for music listening Comment: I returned this headset because the audio quality was inadequate for music.
I did not try to use this headset to make calls, so my review states no facts or opinions about the functionality of the microphone or any other call-related usage.
I chose this headset intending to use it both for talking and for listening to music.
The first thing I did was paired it with my Nokia N82 (which was very easy) and tried listening to music. Immediately I noticed that the sound quality was mediocre. Specifically, the upper frequencies are muddy. This destroys the possibility for really enjoying most, if not all, kinds of music.
To be sure I wasn't imagining it, I did a comparison between this headset and the Nokia earbuds that came with my phone. Although the cheap Nokia earbuds have quite poor bass response, their high frequency response was so much better than the Plantronics, it was like night and day.
That alone was reason enough for me to send them back, but there are a couple more things I didn't like about them. The first is the bright blue light that flashes on the right earphone when the unit is paired with a phone. This is probably not a big deal in a bright room, but in a dimly lit room it's very distracting for anyone who happens to be on your right. I wanted to use these for listening to music at work, but I share an office with two other people and we keep the lights off, so I know this may have been annoying for them. I also like want to be able to use the headset at night when I'm sitting in bed with the lights off, but when I tried this, even I could see the flashing blue light (while wearing the headset!) - and it lit up the whole room.
Unfortunately the light can't be practically covered up, because it is a ring which surrounds the slim buttons used to control volume etc. It would be difficult to cover the light without interfering with the buttons.
The last thing I didn't like was that this headset is quite tight. I was surprised about this because I actually have a small head for an adult male (22" / 56cm). I don't think I could wear the headset for more than half an hour without becoming uncomfortable.
On the plus side, the build quality seemed reasonable, they aren't uncomfortable apart from the tightness, and the extending microphone seems like a great idea (I just can't comment about how well it actually works).
One interesting item to note is that there seems to be a 3.5mm audio jack on the bottom of one of the earpieces, but I saw no mention of it in the manual and no audio cable is provided. If this is an audio jack, it would make the headset useful for connecting to products without Bluetooth.
Pros:
- Extending boom mic should (presumably) work better than a mic embedded in the earpiece (but I didn't not test it).
- Nice design.
- Decent build.
- I had no trouble pairing with my Nokia phone.
- Compact.
Cons:
- Hopeless for music if you care about dynamic range.
- Very bright flashing blue light can be distracting to others (and even the wearer) in a dark or dim room.
- Tight.
- No case provided.
If music, bright lights, and possible discomfort during extended use do not matter to you, this product could would probably be quite good for phone calls.
I should add that I have not yet tested my phone with any other stereo Bluetooth headsets; this means I cannot rule out my phone as the culprit in the case of the poor sound quality.
