Summary: Terrific magazine
Comment: I actually haven't had a chance to read my newest issue, but the previous issue was incredibly inspiring and I am looking forward to new ideas and beautiful stories in this one.

Summary: Defiantly using words like "hope"
Comment: Wow, these are the stories we need to be hearing about. This is exactly what the humanitarian aid community is missing; a way of telling the stories of those in need professionally without exploiting the ones they are trying to help. This magazine highlights disaster and its affect on the human condition in a way that is completely devoid of political agenda and the moral/emotional pan-handling that we have all grown accustom to in calls for aid. The sole focus of this magazine is not only to put the spotlight on those less fortunate but also those who strive to make a difference from all walks of life, letting us know that it is possible without just writing a check. All of this paired with beautifully striking images from renowned photographers. If you are a person interested in worldly events viewed in a different, positive light this publication comes highly recommended.

Summary: An antidote to media-induced hopelessness...
Comment: Need Magazine is intended to be a bridge between those needing help and those who are able to give it. Through thoughtful writing and images that maintain the dignity and humanity of the people depicted, it presents stories about those who are living in need and are attempting to meet these needs through courageous giving, innovative projects, and mindful design.

In many ways, it serves a very unique function in a time of mainstream media reports focusing exclusively on the toll of human and man-made disaster. It maintains that there is hope to help change the world for the better and quietly asserts this through stories about the people and projects that actually do so. Further, every article includes information for readers on how to become involved in the projects and organizations it covers.

In short, Need Magazine works because of several delicate balances: it compels but doesn't lecture; the images are striking but don't aestheticize poverty or disaster; the stories convey the seriousness of need but also the ability of every day people to meet it. A very interesting, hopeful project...

Editorial Reviews:

NEED magazine is an artistic hope-filled publication focusing on life changing humanitarian efforts at home and abroad. It reveals the remarkable stories of people involved throughout the entire humanitarian aid process: survivors, workers, funders, and heroes. NEED's dynamic visual narrative is not only compelling, but also drives awareness, involvement, personal connection, and contributions.
