Summary: Simply great PDA
Comment: This is about my 10th PDA; my last one is the iPAQ 4700. The 4700 uses Mobile 5.0, which is another one of Microsoft's big mistakes, and was soon replace with Mobile 6.0. Version 6.0 corrects all the issues more or less with 5.0. If you are use to Windows CE software you will have little problems learning 6.0. The main improvement is the Mobile 6.0 takes advantage of the speed of the CPU and nice design of this iPAQ 111. The screen and button functions all work well without hesitation. Wi-Fi is great. This PDA is small and light weight, but the screen is a nice size. I found it easy to read since my eyes aren't the best anymore. The speaker is not good for listening too much of anything, but fortunately the headphone jack is a standard one, so you can easily plug in a set of head phones or external speakers.

I used Audilbe.com software and that has installed easily and works fine. I installed a 4gigbyte SD card, and have stored over 10 full length audible books on to it, and still have plenty of room for added storage. This PDA is very light compared to my 4700, and that is a big bonus. So I have the same performance of an $800.00 PDA, but with a much improved OS, light in weight and very light in price.

I am a Prime Amazon member, and for just $4.00 more I got over night shipping. The product has a USB cable, and an AC power supply for faster charging than the USB. Amazon also offers a cradle-charger, which I recommend. There are two types of cradles. One is your basic cradle and the other will hold another battery and charge it, along with being a cradle. I use a nice software program that displays a full screen size clock, and I use the cradle/PDA as a holder. Thus I have an easily to read bedside clock.

I use this PDA at work, I am a health care provider, so I am constantly referencing to software that I have purchased. So the small size and easy to read screen, along with over all speed and storage is all a very welcome change from my large iPAQ 4700.

I know the trend is to have a PDA with a phone, but I personally haven't found one that combines both features well. I use Outlook and since the OS is Microsoft, the syncing to my computer using WinXP is just easy and complete. All the changes I made during the day are transferred to my Outlook on my desktop computer and vice versa. So not only do they keep in sync, but I always have a backup of my Outlook on my PDA. With the Wi-Fi I can be anywhere in my home and connect to my email or the internet quickly and securely and no added cost.

Summary: Now I'm sold
Comment: I purchased the IPAQ for Pocket Fritz (chess software). I didn't expect much beyond that. However, the wireless/internet explorer browser works well, the keypad entry is quick and accurate (also suggesting words), and the display is good. I was debating between the higher resolution enhanced model and the classic model, and opted to save money with the classic. I'm glad I did :-)

Summary: HP iPAQ 111
Comment: I spent quite some time reviewing other units, from Acer Aspire One to palms and higher priced HP handhelds, and for the ease of use, setup, and applications, I found this to be perfect.

As a pharmacy student and hopefully future resident, being able to access pharmacy applications is critical. I currently have three must- have pharmacy programs uploaded, and each one works perfectly. I can spend 4 hours at least with the dim on low-medium, looking up drug interactions, appropriate dosing, and so on.

The microsoft office works excellant, and screen rotate feature is clutch for veiwing powerpoints, excel, pictures. The headphone jack works great too- and although i don't have 30 gigs of memmory,(I have 4) it is nice to have the option of having music on top of everything else.

I have access to my pharmacy notes in word and PP, drug comparisons in excel, lecture recordings, over 100 songs, Wi-FI- which with microsoft Livesearch, where you can actually say where you want to go "Chilis" in "Binghamton, NY" and it comes up with directions, phone #... It is simply priceless. Also does weather, movies, directions and more.

If you can find Wi-Fi, since I haven't been able to connect to securit-enabled network. But since there are many non-secure public sites, the option is still very useful.

I'm glad I didn't go with Acer Aspire one- which while a great product, is too big to use consistantly at the bedside/whip out of your pocket for 1-second access, and too small for me to type accurately- so the ipaq works just fine.

Reset: only used it a few times, like any handheld it has a glitch or two (mostly when I connect it to my computer) but nothing on a regular basis.

Voice recorder is awesome! The quality is adjustable, and sensitivity works very well- I have been able to record my lectures with great results (just remember- mic is on bottom). Only limit is memory card size.

The best deal: no contracts. I like having a phone that runs on its own battery and a seperate handheld. If you have a phone that has internet access, you can bluetooth to your phone and I'm pretty sure (haven't tried it yet) that you can get free nights/ weekends with no extra charge. I have the juke, which is one of the only Verizon phones that doesn't have bluetooth internet... i found out too late!

So, depends on what you need it for, but for a student/all around multipurpose tool, it is perfect.

Summary: Poor Audio Output
Comment: I have been using the HP iPAQ rx1955 Pocket PC for almost 3 years and am quite satisfied with it. Unfortunately, one of the multi-purpose buttons no longer works reliably. I purchased the iPAQ 111 Pocket PC as a replacement - newer operating system, more memory, faster processor, WiFi, and buttons that work. The basis features of the units (with the exception of Bluetooth) are comparable. Unfortunately, the audio output (volume level) was unacceptable. In a quiet room, I had to set the volume control to the maximum level to hear audio books. I tried all of the internal adjustments, several different audio book files, and types of headphones. Nothing would solve the problem. As I use the unit for an MP3 player when traveling on airplanes, the low audio output was not sufficient to be heard over the noise of the engines (and seat mates). I returned the unit to Amazon.com without difficulty - full marks to Amazon. I will nurse my rx1955 along until HP (or whoever) manages to market a unit that will meet my needs.

Editorial Reviews:

Designed to help keep your action-packed life in balance, iPAQ 110 Classic Handheld makes an excellent - and affordable - companion to your cell phone. This slim, stylish organizer also lets you go online with Wi-Fi to stay in touch and keep your calendar, contacts, and tasks up to date.
