Customer Rating: Summary: Great all around printer! Comment: The printer arrived quickly and was extremley easy to set up. Only had for a couple of weeks so far, but seems to be great. One glitch, 8.5'X11' deafault print setting sometime goes to 4'X6' occasionally. Other than that, it's great and a great value!
Customer Rating: Summary: Very nice, only a few small complaints Comment: I'll add to this review in the future. I am really happy with the duplex scanning and printing capability, and the photo print quality blows me away.
But for now, two minor annoyances and two tips on dealing with them:
1. The scanning software puts up tons of useless status windows that steal focus from your other apps. To solve this in Vista, download a virtual desktop manager like VirtuaWin and create a rule to place MP Navigator EX on its own virtual desktop. Windows Key + arrow key lets you quickly switch desktops.
2. The scanner ADF output needs a stop to keep paper from being pushed over the side of the unit. I made one out of cardboard and scotch tape that folds down for legal-size scans.
Random info
- upgrading the firmware on the printer is pretty easy
- 25 8.5"x11" photo prints on Canon's Photo Paper Plus Glossy II used up about 30% of the color ink cartridges
- there is a ridiculous 32-character filename length limit on saving scanned images. WHY?
Customer Rating: Summary: Canon MX850 All-in-one printer Comment: Great printer that copies, prints, faxes, and scans with excellent quality. Ability to sacn directly to word format is especially useful. The dependency of this printer is welcome after multiple problems with equilavent HP printers. Unfortunately the printer I received from Amazon had a defective computer chip and would not work but Amazon returned it without hassle. I purchased the same model at a local office supply and am very happy with it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Has everything I need...... Comment: I needed an all-in-one printer with networking capabilities. After much research, I bought the Canon MX850 & am very pleased.
Pros:
- I have this attached to my router & all functions can be accomplished wirelessly (except for faxing since that needs a phone line). The setup was simple & straightforward.
- I Compared the photo printing of this printer with my dedicated photo printer & could not tell much of a differnece (slightly lighter shading with the MX850).
- The indiviudal ink tanks saves you money as you only need to replace the the colors/tanks when empty.
- All functions are available via buttons on the pritner (do not need to go through software to get to functions).
Cons:
- The installation process puts several programs in the startup process that were not needed. You only need the network monitoring to be loaded to utilize the printer.
- As mentioned previously, the photo printer a shade lighter. But, that was comparing side-by-side with a photo printer. I doubt you would notice otherwise.
Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.
Customer Rating: Summary: No problems can be noted Comment: Has preformed up to all expectations. I have only had it in service for two months but those two months have been great. I have printed, copyed, scaned and sent and received faxes and no complaints. The main black ink tank is a little short lived however I knew this when purchased.
