Customer Rating: Summary: Can't install Comment: What a piece of junk!
I have spent 6 hours trying to install ... reinstall ....
Nuance gives NO support. No explanations. The internet is full of stories of failed attempts to install. I run XP home, not Vista. Nothing new.
What a shabby treatment of customers.
What a waste of time and money.
Customer Rating: Summary: freedom of expression! Comment: The speed with which this software translates my speech into typed words is simply amazing! It is allowing me to write a review of its software on this website. It lets you recognize unique words such as your dog's name, current politicians, and more complicated esoteric words. It is giving me back the written fluency which MS had slowly stolen from me. While some of its interpretations are amusing, they are quickly corrected and the software becomes quite easy to use. By the way I installed it an hour and a half ago.
Customer Rating: Summary: A little disapointed Comment: I am not sure what I expected with Dragon but I purchased the program to assist me in transcribing a list of names into a database for use in my e-mail marketing.
The learning curve is very sharp and the documentation leaves a lot to be desired. The only assistance that Nuance provides is PAID Support. Now having been in the support business for 30 years I know that it is expensive. But when we sold a piece of software we tried to be as helpful getting the program installed and running.
Seems to me that there might be someway that they could provide that for the cost of the software.
All that said the program doesn't assist me with the transcribing of my list in that it doesn't respond to commands quickly enough and you have to keep looking at the screen to make sure that it heard me and did what I wanted.
I haven't used it to dictate documents as yet so can't comment on that.
Had I known that speaking data into a database would be so difficult I would not have purchased the software.
Customer Rating: Summary: NOT Vista-compatible Comment: I was hoping to upgrade from version 9 to 10. However, this version requires a Visual C++ Runtime file to be installed first, and it is NOT compatible with 64-bit Vista. The application prompts you if you want to continue anyway, for some unknown reason. Why? What's the point? It doesn't complete the install even you click Yes. NONE of their documentation should claim that this runs on Vista when it only runs on SOME versions of Vista.
The tech support is a long-distance phone number that's only available until 7 PM Eastern, and Customer Service is only available until 6. (And every tech support call after the first one is not only long distance, but $20 as well.)
Nuance has clearly lost interest in both the "customer" and providing any "service." And for what this product costs, and what it used to be, that's a shame.
Customer Rating: Summary: do NOT upgrade Comment: What a mistake! I have recently purchased what I thought was an upgrade for Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred 9.0 by responding directly to an upgrade announcement. What I received was a mess in the form of Dragon Preferred 10.
The company shipped software with a fatal flaw. The software would not load directly from the CD. Nuance knew this, but shipped anyway.
They compounded the problem by making it very difficult to find out how to make the program work. Could have included instructions, but NO! Instead offered interesting alternatives: I could pay to talk to a tech service rep or I could pay to send an e-mail. Oh, but I can only send you an e-mail if I go through multiple steps of creating "a user ID."
They must be kidding! This bears no resemblance to customer service.
By spending significant time on their website, I finally found the buried instructions on how to bootleg the software. In fact they had to post two alternative in case their first "fix" didn't work! If I would copy the disc to my hard drive, I could work around the error of the software writers. Unfortunately this led to a new problem: either by design or on purpose the software could not recognize that it was an up-grade. As a result it deleted all my Dragon 9.0 files as a part of the installation process... including my user files. I'm sure you can imagine how delighted I was to spend time retraining the software.

Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 Preferred gives small business and advanced PC users the power to create documents, reports, and emails, three times faster than most people type, and with up to 99% accuracy. Surf the Web by voice, or dictate and edit in Microsoft Word and Excel, Corel WordPerfect, and most other Windows-based applications. New Dragon Voice Shortcuts collapse common tasks into simple voice commands. Create custom commands to insert blocks of texts or images such as your name, title, and signature with a single voice command. Format and delete text faster than ever with Quick Voice Formatting. You can even dictate into a handheld device when you're away from your PC, or use a Bluetooth microphone. Most people speak over 120 words per minute, but type less than 40 words a minute. That means you can create documents and emails about three times faster with Dragon Naturally Speaking. Dragon Naturally Speaking never makes a spelling mistake, and it actually gets smarter the more you use it. Dragon Naturally Speaking installs quickly and requires no special script reading to train the system. On-screen help and tutorials will make you an expert user in no time. Use your voice to dictate, edit and control applications like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook Express, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and AOL. Quickly search for information on the Web or on your own computer. Just say "Search the Web for global warming articles," "Search Wikipedia for George Washington Carver," or "Search eBay for Batman comic books." Searching the Web or your computer has never been faster - or easier. Dictate into any Nuance-certified handheld device for automatic transcription when you synch with your PC.
