Summary: ooma is great
Comment: I have had ooma for two weeks and love it. My setup was simple since I just have one phone in my condo. I connected the phone to the ooma hub and the ooma hub to my cable modem. I chose to ditch my old number and get a new number. The whole process took 15 minutes. Calls are very clear. I canceled my digital phone service from Time Warner which I was paying $35/mo for. ooma will pay for itself in six months. I have already told friends and family about ooma and would recommend it to anyone.

Summary: Easy setup, works well
Comment: I bought Ooma from Amazon recently. Installation was a snap. My setup is
on a Comcast cable internet. Ooma base plugs in between the cable modem and the router (wireless in my case) and is tucked away out of sight. Ooma base needs to be connected to a wall phone jack so that it can power all the phone outlets in the house. In my case, besides the jack the Ooma base is connected to, I need only one more active wall outlet which is where the scout is connected to. Then my multi-handset VTech phone is connected to the scout and voila, I have Ooma service from the entire house from all the handsets.

I have disabled the built-in answering machine on my VTech phone system base unit so that Ooma voicemail kicks in. After a simple configuration in the Ooma website (what they call as lounge), a voicemail left by a caller comes in as an email attachment. Very convenient. Now I can listen to my voicemails from anywhere in the world.

I am transferring my phone number to Ooma so that I can ditch my Ma Bell's landline altogether. All-in-all, I am very happy in the two weeks I have been using Ooma.

Summary: Amazing!
Comment: I did a lot of research & reading reviews before buying, trying to find the "catch" but didnt find any. I price shopped around everywhere & ended up paying $229/shipped. Do some price shopping, with the holidays coming I now have seen special offers for $199.

The phone is exactly as described. Its clear as a bell, more clear than any landline. I'll never pay a phone bill again!

Summary: Why isn't everyone using Ooma?
Comment: I've been using Ooma for a few months and haven't had any issues at all. I enjoy the "chimes" that start the dial tone and it is nice to have caller-id and call waiting again (had left that off of the COX phone plan).

We are not heavy phone users, nor do we make any international calls so I can't comment on the call quality overseas. However it is AWESOME to pick up my landline and make a call anywhere in the US without thinking twice about "long distance". I also have a cellphone that has "free" long distance, but it also has limited minutes.

The only knock I give Ooma is the number porting process. #1 - it cost $. #2 - it took me > 4 weeks and I started to get frustrated since it would take a few days to figure out that I was missing some ridiculous # for my existing account that I had never known was even there. Frustrated, but a one time thing.

The bottom line is Ooma has a great service and I'm tickled that I no longer pay a "phone company". Sure - you can pay for the premium services - which I did for the first year - but after that we'll likely just keep the basic service.

What are you waiting for - the price is right for the 2008 christmas season, jump on board for a nice discount.

Summary: Great Device
Comment: I have used this device for 2 weeks now and here is my setup and experience.

1. Connected by landline to the OOMA so that the landline is connedted seamlessly and I do not have to change numbers. Also I have Phone service during power outages.
2. All outgoing call go thru the OOMA so no charges.
3. Called my landline company and changed my service to the very basic.

The unit was very easy to set up and voice quality is very good. So far I have not had any problem.

Editorial Reviews:

In a volatile economy, there's one utility you can save with the aid of VOIP technology - your phone service costs. Smart and stylish, the ooma Hub and ooma Scout partner with your high-speed Internet and your existing home phones to deliver free home phone service. Your one-time purchase eliminates monthly bills for U.S. calling and delivers extremely low rates for international calls. Your one-time purchase of an award-winning ooma Hub device frees your phone service. Call anyone, at any number, anywhere in the U.S. without charge. Think how much you pay the phone company each year. Now imagine what you could do with all the money you save.

Ooma is the only company in the history of the telecom industry that lets you own your dialtone. Your one-time ooma purchase eliminates monthly charges for unlimited US calling. Compared to other stand-alone VoIP providers, there are no monthly fees for US calling. Plus, the ooma system has been architected to deliver exceptional voice quality and reliability, giving you the crisp, acoustic performance of a landline, without the associated fees. A number of our customers have reported that ooma delivers "excellent voice quality," "better than landline."
Easy-to-read manuals are full of colorful diagrams and simple instructions to make set-up as painless as possible. It takes the average customer less than 20 minutes to activate and install the ooma system. Using the ooma system is even easier! ooma devices have been designed to provide an intuitive out-of-box experience. Ooma can move your number from your current phone provider for a one-time fee of $39.99. To use the ooma Hub device, you need TWO things: 1. A high-speed Internet connection (cable/DSL/fiber-optic); and 2. A home phone.
